Spellbinders :: September Card Kit :: Express Yourself

Oh my goodness, have you seen the Spellbinders September Card Kit?!  It's absolutely stunning!  It's called Express Yourself and it really does offer a multitude of ways to say what you'd like to say.

I couldn't help myself this month, I've made 5 cards so far and there are still a wealth of possibilities to make even more.  The colors are gorgeous--it's so dark and moody, but it's not brooding, it's beautiful!  The die set, which consists mainly of pieces to create a letterboard and alphabet, allows you to spell out any message or quote you'd like.  Die cuts and stickers offer embellishment possibilities for any recipient--male, female, adult, child--and a stamp set offers even more sentiments.  Here's a look at what comes in the kit this month:

I got a little carried away with all the gorgeous watercolored florals in the kit, mainly from the die cut pack and patterned paper pad.  It was hard not to!  I made my first card with those elements, layering on all the flowers and leaves, then adding a chipboard sticker sentiment in the center.  All of those pieces, as well as the backing papers are kit add-ons.  That means that they come with the kit, but you can also purchase them separately if you want a bit more or don't want to purchase the entire kit.

The only pieces from this card that aren't extras are the pretty gold flecked resin jewels, which I couldn't stop using!  They're just the right finishing touch (obviously, since I used them on 4/5 of my cards).

Another card made almost exclusively from the extras is this blue one.  I made the navy card from cardstock that comes in the kit (it cannot be purchased as an extra), but the blue-tinged wooden patterned paper is from the paper pad, while the jar, florals, and 'so wonderful' sentiment are all from the die cut pack--don't forget you always get 2 of each die cut in every pack!

'You are' is from the stamp set (which IS an extra) is stamped and embossed in gold.  I did cut some tiny leaves from the die set and gold foil cardstock, and added the resin crystals, all of which are kit exclusives.

More florals on this card, from the paper panel background and the cream and gold die cuts on either side of the 'hello' sentiment.  The dainty gold branches are cut from the dies and the frame corners are from the chipboard sticker pack.  As you can see, it was really difficult for me to NOT use flowers!  Also as you can see, this kit has loads of them so if that's your thing like it's mine, this kit is right up your alley!

Here's one that does NOT have florals, though; it's my take on a baby card.  While I haven't even made a letterboard on a card yet (!!), I've used the alphabet and I used part of the frame to make a shelf here.  When I saw the sleeping crescent moon die cut, along with the stars and jars, I thought it would be really cute to stage this scene.  I turned the small side of the letterboard frame into a shelf and placed the jars on it.  The second jar is a chipboard sticker with fireflies in it--it's so cute!

To go with the dark background and the moon and stars, I die cut the letters to spell 'good night moon' and arranged then on the wall.  Like I said, there are so many possibilities with this kit.  You can make cards for everyone.

For the final card, I'm back to flowers, but I did include a letterboard, even though I didn't make it.  The quote reminded me of Cinderella so I thought that all the sweet fairytale icons would fit well here--the butterfly, the locket, a handful of jewels.

Enjoy your weekend; it was a tough week around here and not too much went according to plan, so I'm definitely looking for a little rest this weekend.  We'll see how that goes!

  1. Your cards are lovely! I haven't made one card from my kit yet, maybe yours will inspire me. I was actually a bit disappointed with this kit. Your gems look nice, mine really don't. Which was one reason I put the whole kit back in the box and put the box away. Any way, all of that aside, I love your cards! I think my favorite is the "you are so wonderful" card, the colors and that gorgeous background paper are awesome.
