Ink to Paper :: September Release :: Day Three

Happy Friday!  I am soooo happy it's Friday.  It's been a long week, but I'm excited that it's Day Three of Ink to Paper's September release.  I have a special post with some fun projects featuring the new Holly Jolly Holiday stamp set, so let's get to it!

I instantly thought of festive holiday tags when I saw this set.  It's a great, bubbly font with fun sentiments, and while it will work just fine with a traditional palette, I wanted to create some gift wrap that reminded me of the joy of being a kid on Christmas morning. Pink and turquoise mixed with red and green give the tags a cheerful appearance, while the sweet holly leaf and berry accents are perfectly sized to add a colorful finishing touch to each tag!

These stamps are just the right fit for the Tagged & Labeled dies from last month and I've used a few variations here.  I stamped 'Holly Jolly' in Pure Poppy, then used the solid alphas in Hibiscus Burst to fill them in.  When stamped on the smaller tag, there's just enough room for the little holly and berry die cuts.  I paired it here with a larger tag cut from Sweet Blush, and then tied it onto my package with some Hibiscus Burst grosgrain ribbon and green twine.

Coordinate the gifts by stamping the holly leaves and berries in opposite colors from the stamped tag messages (i.e. using Hawaiian Shores & New Leaf accents on the Pure Poppy & Hibiscus Burst tag, and vice versa).

I used the labels on the next package, but this time the 'Holly Jolly' outline is stamped in New Leaf and filled with Hawaiian Shores.  The matted label is Aqua Mist and by looping the green twine through the holes I was able to add a little personalized tag to the gift.  Using the alphabet stamps in Holly Jolly Holiday you can stamp the recipient's name or initial.

Finally, even the larger 'Joy/World' fits on the bigger label.  (*There's a space between 'joy' and 'world' to stamp 'to the' in the color of your choice.)  This tag is similar in color to the other labeled tag, but because it's a little bigger, I added an extra holly leaf.

There's not a third size of the label so I cut a gift card holder from the new Tag Creations: Modern Gift from Tropical Teal patterned paper and used that to add some contrast.  This is also a nice way to add gift card packaging to a small present.

It's hard not to be happy when you see Holly Jolly Holiday!  It's like hearing your favorite Christmas song or watching a feel-good holiday movie--it just puts you in a great mood.  I wanted to create something that conveyed that, so I stamped a background panel of Pure Poppy 'Merry & Bright' outlined sentiments, and then stamped each individual letter with colorful solid alpha stamps.  I chose bright and happy colors, added a cute tree die cut, and ended up with a card that will hopefully make my recipient do a little happy dance!

To create the stamped background, I stamped the first 'Merry & Bright' centrally so that I knew I'd have at least one full message in a convenient spot after all the stamping and paper trimming was done.  The other elements, like the tree and 'Christmas' quote, could then be arranged around it.

After stamping all the outlined 'Merry & Brights' I added my colored fills using Berry Sorbet, Limeade Ice, Orange Zest, and Hawaiian Shores inks.  Each letter got its own ink so I stamped all the M's, followed by all the E's, etc, to save a little time.  When it was all done, I trimmed the panel down with the Mix & Mat: Herringbone die to get the stitched border.

I matted my stamped panel to a sheet of Orange Zest Bitty Big dots paper--yes, even orange can be a Christmas color, too!  The tree is from the new set Cheerful Tree which is also featured today, and I put a pretty pink Berry Sorbet ribbon bow at the bottom of it.

You'll find that there are smaller sentiment builder stamps to pair with the larger phrases and I chose 'Have a' and 'Christmas' to add to mine.

I will admit to trying a few different variations of this colored card before I found the right combination.  I wanted something really bright and colorful that popped right off the page and these hues do!  If you like a more traditional card, though, simply swap out the colors. Try reds and greens or dark and light blues instead, depending on your preference.
