winnie & walter world cardmaking day 2017 blog hop
Hey guys! Welcome to the Winnie & Walter World Cardmaking Day Blog Hop! With loads of inspiration from a powerhouse line-up of talent today, I bet you'll get lots of helpful ideas for using W&W products. Speaking of their products, there will of course be a giveaway to win a $25 gift card to their shop. Leave some comments along the way for the chance to win--a total of 5 winners will be selected at random and each will receive a gift card. (Winner announced on the W&W blog.)
You can find full details about the giveaway, as well as the entire lineup of blog hop participants on the Walter & Winnie blog. You may have arrived here after visiting Nichol Spohr's blog, and next up is Laura Sterckx. Before you rush off to see her, though, let's have a little birthday celebration right here!
This project began as a holiday-themed card and gift, but somewhere along the way, it morphed into a birthday duo. I had a black polka dot craving and thought the Carly circle cutaway would make a cute ornament/tag, however, my reimagining of it wasn't as beautiful on paper as it was in my head! This idea turned out much better :)
I used patterned paper from my stash (this one is a few years old, and made by Gossamer Blue) as the base of my card. Over that, I placed two 4" doilies--1 white, 1 gold--and then added my W&W elements. I started by cutting a large tag from the polka dot paper with the Essentials: Katharine Cutaways set. For a sturdier tag, I cut 2 tags from the paper and adhered them back to back. I needed a heavy tag because I wanted to wrap some fuzzy yarn around it and lighter weight paper wasn't going to cut it.
I wound this bright pink yarn around the tag several times, and eventually tied it off at the back of the tag. First, though, I had to create one more element.
I used a handful of dies to make up this circle tag, starting with the circle itself, which is part of Essentials: Carly Cutaways. I cut it from minty paper by Pinkfresh Studio, then cut 2 long banners out of white and glitter cardstocks. After stamping 'birthday wishes' on the white banner, I layered it slightly over the gold one, adhering them to the circle tag.
Next, I trimmed the word 'sending' from the gold glitter paper and added that to the tag above the banners.
Looping one end of the pink yarn through the embellished tag and tying off the yarn in the back, I had one more thing to add to complete this birthday card--a glitter bow, of course! I couldn't do a birthday project without making a bow using the Take A Bow dies, which has always been one of my favorite and most-used sets.
My sparkly, cheerful birthday card is all set...and while I know it's World Cardmaking Day, I just had to make up a little package to accompany this birthday card.
This little spotted box came from Paper Source and I tied it with more of the fuzzy pink yarn that I used on the card. I tucked a small gold birthday candle under the yarn, and tied a minty yarn pom pom to the yarn, as well.
A glittery 'gift' diecut from The Big, The Bold, and Greetings cutaways eliminates any question that this is a present (I wrap up a lot of packages and this cutaway set and matching stamps are absolutely perfect for gift-giving!)
One more small banner tag, outlined in gold paint and addressed to a sweet friend completes the look. On a small box like this, you don't need a lot, but a handful of colorful and textural elements pack a pint-sized punch!
My holiday card fail is someone else's birthday card win!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today...if you're continuing on with the hop, your next stop is Laura Sterckx -- remember to comment for a chance to win one of FIVE Walter & Winnie shop gift cards! Enjoy your weekend and I hope you get lots and lots of cards made today :)
