Halloween Banner :: We R Memory Keepers

Happy Almost-Halloween, my friends! A couple of months ago, I had the honor to join the Design Team at We R Memory Keepers, which, I have to say, is pretty dang awesome!  I've been using their tools for years and now I get to use them to share some different kinds of projects, a few that let me step out of my comfort zone a little, which is always a good thing!  This is my second home decor piece I've made since joining the team and my house is looking all the better for it!

 I have to admit that Halloween usually gets lost in the mix of happenings at this time of year; we take the kids trick-or-treating, but there’s so much else going on that I don’t put out many (if any) decorations. The other day my five-year-old daughter mentioned that she was sad we didn’t have decorations up and that prompted me to find some time to create a little something we could hang up. 

Looking over all of my WRMK tools, I got so many fun ideas for things to create, not the least of which was a scalloped “HAPPY HAUNTINGS” banner made with the Circle Spin & Trim, and some help from Pebbles’ Spooky Boo collection. 

I started by cutting out fourteen 6” circles from the different Spooky Boo patterned papers. It took mere minutes to do using the Spin & Trim, it’s that easy! I cut 2 from each 12” x 12” paper so I could use a circle from each side. 

I then folded each circle in half. You can use the aid of a scoring tool like the WRMK Scoreboard, if you need to. I lay each word (‘happy’ and ‘hauntings’) out on my table and measured the length of twine I’d need for each strand. I folded the circles over the twine and adhered them closed, creating scalloped garlands. 

I used the Circle Spin & Trim again to cut fourteen 2” circles out of gold glitter paper and adhered each letter of my phrase to them. While the Thickers are already backed with adhesive, I added extra glue to ensure a firm hold since sunlight and heat from our television are both could dry out the existing adhesive.

Before committing those circles to my garland, I chose a few simple embellishments like paper stickers, puffy stickers, and a little black lace to add to each semi-circle. 

As much as I’m not a fan of spiders AT ALL, the glitter wall spiders make a creepy-cute addition to some of the banner pieces.

I also couldn’t resist whipping up some ghost tassels with yarn and the Tassel Loom, which I tied onto the twine in-between circles. The final touch was a bit of off-white sequin trim to the top of each scallop.

This was such a fun project to create and, thanks to the Circle Spin & Trim, cutting out all of those circles was so easy and fast—and uniform, which makes handmade home décor look a lot more polished. My daughter is so excited to finally have some Halloween décor in our house! I’m sure it won’t be the last we put up this year, either; I think more of those ghosts are calling my name…
