moving on...

Has a ball of yarn ever made you cry?  Get ready...

Today would have been my mom's 65th birthday...For me, for my sister, for my dad, March 4th will always be her birthday, of course, it's just that her life ended at 63.

I've wanted to post this video since the first time I saw it, several months ago.  It's from my very favorite band, James.  When I saw it on Facebook, I had no idea what I was in for.  I was just excited to learn they were about to release a new album and here was a video from it.  I played it while we were waiting for Mr. Bagubian to go to the bathroom, of all things, and by the time he was finished, I was in tears!

The video, directed by Ainslee Henderson, is incredibly moving, in light of the events in my life over the last 2 years.  Though a year and 5 months have gone by since Mom's passing, my emotions are still right on the surface and the content of this video hit very close to home, for both my sister and me.  I had a baby 8 months before Mom died;  Emily had a baby 8 months after.  I feel like this short film very much applies to her, given that she found out she was pregnant the day we lost our mother.

The composition is both heartbreaking and uplifting...I implore you to watch it.

Beautiful, tearjerking storyline aside, this little film is amazing for what it is--a ball of yarn.

And the lyrics are worth a closer listen, as well.  I was so engrossed in the storyline the first few times I watched the video, that I don't even think I heard them!

So today, I remember my dear, sweet mom, and raise a glass of her favorite wine to her.  Tomorrow, we will celebrate life; it's Nemy's 2nd birthday.

  1. Rebecca,
Thank you for posting this video. It is truely beautiful and moving. I have watched it several times and also looked up the lyrics. t is very touching.
I feel when one loses their mother they become orphans.I As always, we must remember that TODAY IS NOT FOREVER. If we are happy in the life we have just now we need to embrace it and treasure every moment. It will change. If we are in a difficult place we need to push on, fully cognizant that it too will change and pass.

Best wishes as you as you work through your grief. Visit those wonderful memories of your mother often.

    1. Thank you, Kathleen, for your inspirational message. It makes me so happy to hear you enjoyed the video and even looked up the lyrics. I am incredibly moved by the song and film so was happy to hear it meant something to you, as well. I am always thinking of my mom and always will; I am in a much better place today than I was a year ago, but there are difficult moments still. I appreciate that you took a few moments of your time to reach out with some encouraging words. I will admit to a bit of surprise at seeing a message from 'Kathleen' appear in the comments section of this post about my mom--that was her name, too :) A big hug to you.
